A New York family is grieving the death of 7‑month‑old Kaori Patterson‑Moore, who was fatally shot in her stroller during a daytime shooting in Brooklyn.

Police say the gunfire erupted near Moore Street and Humboldt Street in East Williamsburg on April 1, striking the infant in the head as her mother pushed her in a stroller.

Investigators say the shooting stemmed from gang activity and that the gunmen did not target Kaori. Surveillance video shows two men on a moped opening fire toward a group before speeding away. The bullet grazed Kaori’s 2‑year‑old brother, and doctors expect him to recover.

Her parents ran into a nearby deli for cover. Inside, they realized Kaori was bleeding. Her father rushed her to Woodhull Hospital, but doctors could not save her.

Two Suspects Arrested and Charged

Police have arrested two men in connection with the shooting:

  • Police charged Amuri Greene, 21, with murder, attempted murder, assault and multiple weapons offenses. Greene broke his leg when the suspects crashed their moped during their escape, and officers arrested him shortly afterward. He has pleaded not guilty.
  • NYPD detectives and the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Matthew Rodriguez, 18, in Pennsylvania. He waived extradition and now faces murder charges in Brooklyn.

Prosecutors say Greene fired at least two shots during what they describe as a botched gang‑related hit. Officials believe the intended target had ties to the Money Over Everything (MOE) gang, according to investigators.

Verified GoFundMe Created to Support the Family

A verified GoFundMe created by a family friend describes the moments leading up to the shooting. According to the organizer, Kaori’s parents were out for a walk with their children when two men on a motorbike drove by and opened fire. Both adults ran for cover, unaware that Kaori had been struck.

The fundraiser says the parents realized she was injured, and her father panicked and rushed her to the hospital, but she did not survive.

Funds raised will help cover:

  • Funeral expenses, including the casket, clothing, decorations and headstone
  • Support for the parents, who were already facing financial hardship
  • Stability needs as they attempt to rebuild their lives

The GoFundMe urges the community to “come together as a union and family to help uplift one another in hard times.”

Community Holds Vigil for Kaori

FOX 5 New York reports that a large crowd gathered Saturday at the corner where Kaori was shot to hold a vigil. Clergy members, elected officials and neighbors prayed with the family and called for action to prevent further violence.

New York Attorney General Letitia James told the crowd, “This should have never happened. There should have never been a shooting where a baby is being killed.”

Kaori’s grandmother said the family feels devastated and urged the city to invest in programs for at‑risk youth. Her father wrote a letter describing the loss as “unbearable pain,” and relatives read it aloud during the ceremony.

Community clergy said they organized the vigil to offer “prayer, reflection and compassion” as the neighborhood mourns.
