Black Americans from the city are moving down south
Data shows African-Americans from the East and The Mideast are moving more down south than in decades.
A recent NY Times article discusses why many Black Americans are trading in the big city lights to live down south.
Black Americans are moving down south
The article reports that the economic downturn has turned Black New Yorkers, including many who are young and college educated, to move down south.
About 17 percent of the Black Americans who moved south came from New York, far more than any other state, according to census data.
The movement is not limited imto New York. Data shows African Americans from the East and the Mideast are moving more down south than in decades.
Many who have already left have no desire to return to the city. Being a Jersey girl myself, I have had many conversations about making the move down south.
It was always said that the south was more economic friendly. Over the last few years, the south has proven it’s the place to be for a new start.
