Joseph Kony is the leader of the Ugadan Guerrilla group called the Lord’s Resistance Army. Kony has been raging war in the country for nearly 30 years fighting for a violent campaign to form a theoretic government in Uganda.
Have you heard of this story? The story of Joseph Kony isn’t a new one, but if you haven’t heard, let me make you aware today.
Joseph Kony is the leader of the Ugandan Guerrilla group called the Lord’s Resistance Army.
Kony has been raging war in the country for nearly 30 years fighting for a violent campaign to form a theoretic government in Uganda.
To make matters worse, Kony has been abducting and recruiting children into his army. If that isn’t enough, he forces the boys to kill and maim their own families and sexually assault the girls.
Just terrible.
Since starting in 1988, it is estimated that more than 66,000 children have been forced, abducted, and required to fight for the LRA while more than 2 million people have been displaced because of the conflict.
Kony, who has thus far escaped capture, remains on the top of the UN’s International Criminal Court’s most wanted list. This is partly due to Uganda’s jungle environ as well as lack of international support for the cause. But the NGO Invisible Children is not having it and is hoping to change that. Check out this video they made to inform the public about Joseph Kony and the plight of the LRA’s child soldiers, with hopes of getting American lawmakers and the public to bring justice to Kony.
