“Beauty Of The Week”, written and directed by playwright Mark A. Henderson, is a staged reading presented by “PLAYWRIGHTS ON THE RISE”. It is produced by Rich Quatrone and was performed at the Strand theater in Lakewood, NJ.

Henderson describes “Beauty of the week” as a “poignant look back at the oh so soulful 70s”. Henderson is a 20 year veteran of theater arts and is the Associate Artistic Director of the Dunbar Repertory Company in Red Bank, NJ.

The setting of the play takes place in Jacksons Shack Barbershop, a cluttered business in the inner city, where there are four chairs. In the barbershop there is one whole section of the wall covered with Jet Magazine Beauty of the week Photos.

The play takes the audience on a roller coaster ride through the 70s where stories are told in the shop that brings about joy, laughter, love and sorrow.

The staged reading was given positive feedback by the audience. One audience member described how the reading was vividly brought to life.
