Colin Kaepernick is expanding his activism by launching a free youth camp designed to teach young people their rights.

Know Your Rights Camp Focuses on Education and Safety

The San Francisco 49ers quarterback hosted the Know Your Rights camp in Oakland. The event aimed to educate Black and Latino youth on higher education, self‑empowerment and safe interactions with law enforcement. Hundreds of Bay Area children attended, according to the New York Daily News.

Kaepernick told participants the camp’s goal was to equip them with tools to navigate systemic challenges.

“We’re here today to fight back and give you all lessons to combat the oppressive issues that our people face daily,” he said, according to the Daily News.

Kaepernick Youth Camp Inspired by Black Panther Party

The camp’s curriculum highlighted 10 rights organizers believe every child should know, including the right to be free, healthy, safe and educated. The program draws inspiration from the Black Panther Party’s 10‑point plan. Former party member Ericka Huggins attended to share historical context and guidance.

Kaepernick said he sees hope in the next generation and believes youth‑led movements often spark lasting change.

Plans to Expand Nationwide

Kaepernick told the New York Daily News he plans to expand the Know Your Rights camp beyond the Bay Area. He said he wants to partner with local leaders and activists in cities across the country.

“What we’ve done here today in Oakland, we want to do all over the country,” he said. “We want to show young people how much we love and value them.”
