Artist Jacolby Satterwhite faces medical crisis; Community launches fundraiser
A GoFundMe has been launched for renowned artist Jacolby Satterwhite who is facing a medical crisis.
Renowned artist and filmmaker Jacolby Satterwhite is facing a life-threatening medical emergency. A severe infection has developed in a childhood prosthetic shoulder, which was implanted after he survived cancer twice.

The prosthetic has ruptured, exposing bone and threatening nearby organs. Satterwhite is preparing for a long recovery. Treatment includes three major surgeries and a year of rehabilitation starting in June.
According to a GoFundMe page, Satterwhite has built a remarkable career despite limited mobility. His work has been featured in major galleries and museums around the world.
Over the past year, Satterwhite has undergone multiple rounds of antibiotics and medical care. These treatments helped manage his symptoms, but a severe infection recently developed in his prosthetic shoulder.
The infection caused the prosthetic to rupture, leaving a grapefruit-sized open wound and exposing bone. It has begun to affect other organs. Doctors say urgent surgery is needed to save his life.
A Complex Medical Journey
Starting in June, Satterwhite will begin a year-long treatment plan. It includes three major surgeries and extended rehabilitation.
After consulting with Columbia Medical and specialists at three leading hospitals, he has assembled a top-tier medical team to oversee his care.
“Jacolby is more than an artist—he’s a source of joy and connection in every community he’s part of. Known for his deep compassion and radiant spirit, he brings people together through his work, teaching, and care for others.
This health crisis affects his ability not only to make a living, but also to live independently. Without support, the toll—physical, emotional, and financial—will be overwhelming,” the GoFundMe reads.

At the date of this article, the fundraiser has raised $133,000 out of its $200,000 goal.
“Your support gives Jacolby the stability to focus on healing—and the chance to return to the work and life that has touched and inspired so many,” the GoFundMe continued.
