The Mamie Johnson Little League softball team won the D.C. 1 State title, representing Wards 7 and 8. On Sunday, July 20, they’ll compete in Bristol, Connecticut at the 2025 Little League World Series Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament.

About the Mamie Johnson Little League Softball team

Named in honor of Mamie “Peanut” Johnson — one of three women to play professional baseball in the Negro Leagues — the team embodies the spirit of trailblazing excellence. These athletes are not only dominating the diamond but also redefining the narrative for young Black girls in Washington, D.C. softball.

Community support needed

As the team prepares for the high-stakes regional competition, they face an urgent financial hurdle. The cost of travel, lodging, meals, and tournament fees threatens to hinder their progress. To ensure these champions get the opportunity they’ve earned, the team has launched a GoFundMe campaign to rally support.

Community leaders and supporters are encouraged to contribute to the fundraiser to help offset expenses and sustain this historic run.

“By supporting their journey, you’re helping to grow the sport and empower these talented athletes. Let’s rally together to ensure they have the resources they need to compete at the 2025 Little League World Series Mid-Atlantic Region Tournament and beyond,” the fundraiser reads.
