North Carolina mom saves family jumps from third floor Angela Coleman
CBS17

In a terrifying moment of crisis, Angela Coleman made a split-second decision that saved her family’s lives.

Angela Coleman’s heroic effort

The North Carolina mother jumped from a third-floor window after rescuing her children and 5-year-old granddaughter from a fast-moving apartment fire.

Her daughter first spotted smoke outside their Rosewood apartment near Goldsboro. Within seconds, flames surged from the second floor, blocking the stairs.

Coleman’s daughter escaped down the stairwell. Coleman then woke her son, who dove out of the building in panic.

That left Coleman and her granddaughter, Jourdyn, trapped inside. Smoke thickened. Time was running out.

Coleman wrapped towels around their heads to filter the air. She rushed to her bedroom window, where neighbors waited below.

“I held onto her for a while before I dropped her,” Coleman said, describing how she lowered Jourdyn to safety.

Then Coleman climbed out herself. She gripped the ledge until she couldn’t hold on. She fell, suffering a fractured back and broken leg.

The fire destroyed everything. Coleman’s family lost all belongings. Her son and granddaughter were treated for minor injuries and are now home.

Investigators confirmed the fire was accidental. It left 50 residents homeless and sent four people to the hospital.

GoFundMe launched for support

Coleman remains hospitalized. Her family launched a GoFundMe campaign to help replace lost items and cover medical expenses.

“I had to think fast,” Coleman said. “There was no time to hesitate”.

The fundraiser has begun receiving donations from supporters moved by Coleman’s courage. Every contribution helps her rebuild.
