ST. LOUIS — Two young boys helped stop a burglary at their neighborhood ice cream shop, earning praise as heroes.

St. Louis boys stop burglary in progress at local business

Adonis, 9, and Jayceon “JC,” 10, spotted a shattered window and heard suspicious noises at Aunt Jamie’s Ice Cream and acted fast.

“We came out here to try to buy some ice cream, and his window was just shattered,” Adonis told Fox 2 Now. “So we just started hearing noise, and I said, ‘Who’s in here?’”

When the shop owner didn’t answer his call, Adonis immediately contacted police. The boys stayed outside and kept watch until officers arrived and found the suspect trapped inside the store.

The shop’s owner, Aaron Roesch, praised their quick thinking. “If I didn’t have a friendship with these kids, that guy would have walked away scot-free,” Roesch said.

Beloved Aunt Jamie’s Ice Cream is a staple in the community

Aunt Jamie’s, named after Roesch’s godmother, opened just a month ago. The business serves ice cream, coffee, and desserts, and has quickly become a favorite hangout for neighborhood kids.

JC said Roesch didn’t deserve the break-in. “He is a nice guy,” JC said. “He shouldn’t be treated how people treat him.”

Roesch said Adonis and JC often visit to do homework, draw, and spend time together. “These fellows have become my friends,” he added.
