The mother of 19‑year‑old Jaliyah Tayanna Butler started a GoFundMe campaign after her daughter was shot and killed during South Carolina State University’s homecoming in Orangeburg.

Butler, who was visiting friends, died Oct. 4 when gunfire erupted near Hugine Suites.

Her mother started the fundraiser to cover living expenses and legal costs.

Remembering Jaliyah Tayanna Butler

Born in Lexington, South Carolina, on Feb. 1, 2006, Bulter graduated from Greenwood High School in 2024.

She enrolled at Piedmont Technical College, where she studied in the Funeral Service Program, her obituary read.

Mother’s Plea for Support

In the fundraiser, Butler’s mother wrote: “Losing Jaliyah has left a hole in my heart that can never be filled.”

She explained she has been unable to work since the tragedy and has fallen behind on bills.

Her mother added that hiring an attorney to pursue justice has increased her financial strain.

She urged the community to help her fight for stability and accountability.

Community Response

The GoFundMe asks for donations to support Butler’s family during this difficult time.

Her mother emphasized that every contribution helps her seek justice and rebuild her life.

Supporters have shared the campaign across social media, calling for solidarity and compassion.

Investigation Ongoing into South Carolina State Homecoming Shooting

Orangeburg authorities confirmed the investigation remains active.

Investigators have not arrested a suspect, officials confirmed.

Detectives continue gathering evidence as Butler’s family presses for answers.
