Family seeks answers after Milwaukee man found hanging from tree
First responders discovered the 39‑year‑old’s body at Brookfield Hills Golf Course on Nov. 13, according to a police report.
The family of Milwaukee man Torrance “Tory” Medley, who was found hanging from a tree at a golf course, is demanding answers and justice.
Hanging Death of Milwaukee man Torrance Tory Medley
First responders discovered the 39‑year‑old’s body at Brookfield Hills Golf Course on Nov. 13, according to a police report. His loved ones say they will not let his death be swept aside.
Tory Medley’s Loved Ones Speak Out
“Tory was more than a headline. He was a good man, and he had a family that loved him deeply,” his sister Shena Medley said in an interview with 12 News. She later wrote on Facebook that the discovery changed her family’s life forever and vowed to keep pressing for transparency.
Attorney and Advocates Join Effort
The family retained Attorney William Sulton, who stood with local NAACP representatives to call for accountability.
“Regardless of the outcome, the family deserves the truth,” Sulton said.
When asked what they want from police, Sulton emphasized transparency: “The main thing we want is information. We’d like to know the status of the investigation and what steps have been taken.”
Officials confirmed they have been providing updates to the Medley family.
Police Response and Autopsy Findings
Brookfield Police initially classified the death as a possible suicide.
An autopsy was performed, but officials confirmed the investigation remains open.
Detectives said surveillance footage has been reviewed, though no evidence of foul play has been found.
Sulton urged police to release any video footage that could help clarify Medley’s final moments at the golf course.
Questions About Circumstances
Family members point out Medley had no ties to the golf course and did not own a car, leaving them uncertain how he arrived there. They argue the suicide ruling came too quickly, before critical questions were answered.
Broader Context
Medley’s death comes just two months after 21‑year‑old Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found hanging from a tree at Delta State University in Mississippi. Both cases have fueled calls for deeper investigations and heightened awareness of the racial history tied to such tragedies. Advocates say the painful legacy of lynching in America makes transparency essential.
“We all know the negative relationship that Black men have with lynching in our country, and this is a big deal,” said Sulton to Fox 6.
Tory Medley’s Family’s Mission for Justice
Shena Medley vowed her family will not stop until they receive answers.
“We expect transparency. Tory deserves it, our family deserves it, and the community deserves it,” she said.
