GoFundMe launched for daughters of Keith Porter after fatal shooting by off-duty ICE agent
Keith Porter, 43, was fatally shot by an off-duty ICE agent on New Year’s Eve in Northridge.
LOS ANGELES — The father of 43-year-old Keith Porter Jr. has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support his two daughters as they navigate life after their father was fatally shot by an off-duty ICE agent on New Year’s Eve in Northridge.
The fundraiser comes as the family continues to call for a full and transparent investigation into the shooting.
GoFundMe created following Keith Porter’s killing by an off-duty ICE agent
Authorities say Porter fired celebratory gunshots into the air outside his apartment before the off-duty agent confronted him. Federal officials claim Porter pointed a rifle at the agent and ignored commands to drop it. The agent then opened fire, killing him. However, the Department of Homeland Security has not released video or physical evidence supporting its account.
Porter’s attorney, Jamal Tooson, disputes the federal narrative and says no evidence shows Porter fired toward the agent. He also questions why the off-duty officer left his apartment before LAPD arrived. The case remains under investigation, and LAPD has not issued new updates.
Family Says GoFundMe Fundraiser Will Support Keith Porter’s Daughters
The GoFundMe campaign was created to help Porter’s daughters access long-term support, stability, and care. The family says the girls now face life without their father and will need resources as they grow. They describe the fundraiser as a way for the community to stand with them during what they call an unimaginable loss.
Relatives say the donations will help the girls maintain stability and receive the emotional and practical support they need. The family also expressed deep gratitude for every contribution, noting that community kindness has offered comfort during a devastating time.
Attorney Questions Federal Account of the Shooting
Tooson told Fox 11 Los Angeles the family has not found a witness who heard the agent identify himself before firing. He also says they have not seen shell casings or evidence that match the agent’s claim that Porter fired three rounds toward him.
He argues the shooting was avoidable and says the agent should have stayed inside and waited for LAPD. “Had he stayed in his apartment, Keith would still be here,” Tooson said during a recent press conference.
Although DHS maintains the agent acted in self-defense, the agency has referred all further questions to LAPD.
Loved Ones Remember Keith Porter as a Devoted Father
Porter’s mother, Franceola Armstrong, told Fox 11 her son was “joyful, compassionate, and deeply committed” to his children. She says he brought warmth to every room and supported those around him with kindness.
Family members say Porter fired into the air as part of a New Year’s Eve celebration, not as a threat. They believe the off-duty agent was not trained for the situation and should have waited for responding officers.
