Maryland’s Bryan Sosoo earns spot on 2026 U.S. Olympic bobsled team
Team USA named him one of six push athletes who will compete in Italy in February.
Bryan Sosoo, a Laurel, Maryland native and former Monmouth University track standout, has officially qualified for the 2026 U.S. Olympic bobsled team. Team USA named him one of six push athletes who will compete in Italy in February.
A Rapid Rise From Track to Ice
Sosoo competed for Monmouth from 2014 to 2019, where he excelled in the sprints and won multiple conference titles. His transition to bobsled began in August 2024, when he attended a USA Bobsled rookie camp. Within months, he placed fifth at the USA Push Championship and later earned a spot on the World Cup roster.
His Olympic qualification was confirmed on January 19, when USA Bobsled‑Skeleton announced its full men’s lineup for the 2026 Games.
The federation noted that the final roster reflects season‑long performance and international ranking criteria.
Bryan Sosoo: Balancing a Full‑Time Career With Olympic Demands
While training at an elite level, Sosoo continues to work in the pharmaceutical industry. He says patient care guides his daily responsibilities, yet the demands of Olympic preparation require strict routines and extensive travel.
Because bobsled is a self‑funded sport, athletes often shoulder significant financial burdens.
GoFundMe Launched to Offset Costs
To manage expenses, Sosoo created a GoFundMe campaign outlining the costs associated with competing at the Olympic level. He cites travel, housing, treatment, and training as major financial challenges.
In the fundraiser, he describes himself as “a dedicated and passionate athlete” preparing for the 2026 Games and calls the opportunity “a dream come true.” He also notes that balancing a full‑time job with professional training makes community support essential.
Looking Ahead to Milan‑Cortina
Bobsled competition at the 2026 Winter Olympics will run from February 15 to February 22, airing on NBC, USA Network, and Peacock.
Sosoo’s Olympic debut marks a milestone for both Maryland athletics and Monmouth University, which now sees one of its former sprinters competing on the world stage.
As he continues training, he hopes supporters will join his journey to the starting line in Italy.
