Morgan State puts Kappa Alpha Psi on probation after denying gay hopeful
A Kappa Alpha Psi chapter at Morgan State University has been put on probation after discriminating against and denying a hopeful entry because he’s gay.
A Kappa Alpha Psi chapter at Morgan State University has been put on probation after discriminating and denying a hopeful entry because he’s gay, reports The Sun.
After an investigation, the university determined the Alpha Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi did, in fact, discriminate against Brian Stewart because he is gay.
Morgan State University released a statement Tuesday, outlining the terms of the probation.
“The Alpha Iota chapter of Kappa Alpha has been determined to have violated certain university regulations, procedures and policies,” the statement reads.
“As a result, the chapter has been placed on disciplinary probation until fall 2015. During the probationary period, the chapter cannot register as an official organization or student group with the university. The chapter cannot participate in any university sponsored event or activity, and cannot sponsor or host any event on or off campus.”
Stewart will be a first generation college graduate. He holds a 3.2 GPA and has interned at the White House. He says he complained to make sure other students don’t endure the same discrimination.
“This is a proper course of action, mainly to raise awareness that this happens,” he said.
Ironically, Stewart receives scholarships from Kappa Alpha Psi to attend Morgan State University.
