Ghana Session: Freddie Mercury/Memorial Day. In Addition, Remembering D-Day June 6, 1944!
Asbury Park High School and Solid Rock Foundation students discussed Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the band called Queen.
For this week’s Ghana session, students discussed Freddie Mercury, Memorial Day, and D-Day.

Just recently Mr. Wronko and his Asbury Park High School students had a video conference with the students from the Solid Rock Foundation school in Ghana. The topic for this session was remembering Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of the band called Queen.
Throughout this session, videos were shown of Freddie Mercury’s interviews and hit songs. The students in Ghana were also very familiar with his hit songs such as We Will Rock You and We Are the Champions. To further celebrate Mercury’s memory, chorus teacher, Yvette Elgart, showed two videos of her students singing multiple songs from Queen.
After the remembrance of Freddie Mercury, the Memorial Day celebration continued with Mr. Wronko sharing images of the past veterans that visited the Asbury Park School District, Lou Parisi, George Reed, and Alfonso Freda. In addition, Mr. Wronko shared a picture with Tuskegee Airman, George Watson, which was a celebration of Mr. Watson’s service at the VFW post in Asbury Park.

REMEMBERING D – DAY
Besides the Ghana session, I just wanted to insert into this post the importance of remembering June 6, 1944. 77 YEARS AGO, Operation Overlord, which consisted of the Normandy landings or the D-Day invasion, was the ultimate advancement of allied forces ending Nazi control over Western Europe. These brave soldiers should never be forgotten for their service and that they were willing to sacrifice their own lives so that the world would be free. In addition, even though Memorial Day passed, we should still celebrate on each Remembrance Day of every battle fought the men and women who protected the United States of America.
On an end note, we must remember the true meaning of the holiday that just passed, Memorial Day. Memorial Day should not be a day of just having barbecues and having fun, it should be a day of remembrance of everyone who sacrificed their life for this country. Their memories should be honored!
