GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — The Gwinnett County legal community is mourning the death of Superior Court Judge Deborah R. Fluker, a respected jurist known for fairness, integrity, and unwavering service on the bench. Judge Fluker died after a battle with cancer, according to 11Alive.

A Respected Voice in Georgia’s Courts

Judge Fluker served in the Gwinnett Judicial Circuit Superior Court, where colleagues praised her deep legal knowledge and commitment to justice. She continued working throughout her illness and upheld high standards in her courtroom.

Judge Deborah Fluker’s Trailblazing Career

Judge Fluker made history as the first African American Superior Court judge in Gwinnett County, per county officials.

Her illustrious career included:

  • Assistant district attorney roles in Gwinnett, DeKalb, and Hall counties
  • Service as the first African American municipal court judge in Suwanee
  • Service as the first African American female municipal court judge in Dacula

She was first elected to the Superior Court in 2020 and re-elected in 2024.

Community Reaction and Legacy

Local leaders described Judge Fluker as a trailblazer whose influence will endure.

Gwinnett County Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson said she brought “integrity, wisdom and a fearless commitment to justice” that shaped the community.

Officials emphasized that her legacy will continue to guide the county’s legal system for generations.

Judge Fluker is survived by her husband, Reginald Fluker, and their two children, Adrian and Aundraya.
