Family launches GoFundMe for Ohio woman facing four years in Bali over marijuana
At the time of this posting, the fundraiser has raised $41,000 as relatives race to meet urgent legal deadlines.
Ohio mother Tye Kionne remains detained in Bali after authorities found marijuana in her luggage, and her family has launched a GoFundMe to bring her home. At the time of this posting, the fundraiser has raised $41,000 as relatives race to meet urgent legal deadlines.
Family Says Time Is Running Out for Tye Kionne
Tye traveled to Bali with her mother to celebrate a birthday. However, customs officers detained her after discovering marijuana in her suitcase, according to family posts. Indonesian officials then transported her to jail, where she now faces a possible four‑year prison sentence under the country’s strict drug laws.
Her family says customs held her for nearly 24 hours before she learned she couldn’t leave Indonesia without paying $75,000 in fees. This past Monday, she had to pay $30,000 or remain stuck overseas for years.
“I made a mistake not researching and took the wrong thing in my suitcase to Bali,” Tye wrote on Friday (Apr. 24). “I was arrested, and I can’t come home until I pay $75,000!!! And I only have til Monday to pay $30,000 of it or I will be stuck over here 4+ years.”
She added, “If I get the money, I can do rehab here for 3 months and come home!!! Please Please Please!!!! I’m begging yall to get me home to my babies!!!!”
GoFundMe Describes Urgent Need for Legal Help for Tye
The GoFundMe states that Tye is a devoted mother of two daughters and stepmother to four children. It also highlights her work as a cheer coach, tumbling instructor, and youth‑program operator.
The fundraiser explains that:
- Funds will cover legal representation, a rehabilitation program, and travel costs.
- She may return home in three months if the family meets the financial deadline.
- Failure to pay could leave her in Indonesia for four years or longer.
“Tye is a very passionate woman who devoted her life to kids in every way she could,” the campaign reads. “We’re working to meet an urgent deadline, or she won’t be able to come home.”
Indonesia’s Drug Laws Remain Among the Strictest
Indonesia classifies marijuana at the same level as heroin and cocaine. Offenses can lead to long prison terms, life sentences, or even the death penalty. Officials urge travelers to study local laws carefully because even prescription medications require proper documentation.
Community Support Continues to Grow
As donations rise, supporters across Ohio and beyond continue to share Tye’s story. Her family says every contribution helps them move closer to reuniting her with her children and ending a crisis that began as a simple vacation.
“Studying a country’s culture is CRITICAL when deciding to travel abroad and must be taken serious. In summary, Tye is not use to international travel and made a decision that is going to cost her a safe return home from Bali, Indonesia.”
