According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, 18-year-old Chrystofer Whyte of North Brunswick was officially identified on Sunday, reported N.J.com.
Whyte graduated from Woodbridge High School in 2024 where he played football according to records.
He was a popular TikTok star known for doing backflips. The last video Whyte posted was him on the beach before the tragic shooting.
Night of fun turns tragic
At 8:58 p.m., Long Branch police responded to reports of gunfire in the beach area between the shoreline and the Pier Village boardwalk, according to a statement released Friday afternoon by Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond S. Santiago.
Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male victim, suffering from a single gunshot wound, he said.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
An investigation involving members of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office – Major Crimes Bureau and the Long Branch Police Department is currently ongoing.
Law enforcement officials believe this to be an isolated incident and that there is no further threat to the public.

Authorities are requesting that anyone who may have been on the beach, or in the vicinity at the time, and has firsthand video footage of the incident on their phones or electronic devices, to please come forward.
