On the afternoon of June 28, a semi-truck barreled into stalled traffic on I-20 near Terrell, slamming into the McKellar family’s Ford F-150. The crash claimed the lives of four family members and a nearby driver. Twenty-year-old Evan McKellar is the sole survivor.

Evan, a college student with a radiant future ahead, was airlifted to Parkland Hospital and remains in critical condition in the ICU. Her family says she lost a foot in the impact.

Her parents, Zabar and Krishaun McKellar, were pronounced dead at the scene, along with her 15-year-old brother, Kason—an aspiring student-athlete—and her grandfather, Billy McKellar. Another driver, 49-year-old Nicole Gregory, was also killed when the semi struck her Jeep.

According to authorities, the driver of the semi, 27-year-old Alexis Gonzalez-Companioni, admitted he fell asleep at the wheel. He now faces five counts of manslaughter.

The McKellars were a beloved family

The McKellars were beloved in their Fort Worth community—known for their unwavering faith, generosity, and the kind of love that filled every room they entered. Friends describe them as “the family who prayed together and stayed together.”

A verified GoFundMe campaign, “McKellar Family Fund: Daughter in ICU,” has raised tens of thousands of dollars in just days. The fundraiser, launched by family friend Kirbie Nichols, is helping to cover funeral expenses and support Evan’s long road to recovery.
