Meredith College student Angelica Scott faces tuition crisis

The sophomore, who is studying theatre and psychology at the North Carolina college, says she faces a tuition shortfall despite working two jobs and applying for multiple scholarships. Determined to continue her education, Scott turned to crowdfunding as a final resort.

“This was a last option, but I wanted to put my pride to the side,” she told CBS 17.

GoFundMe campaign launched

Scott’s GoFundMe campaign outlines her academic achievements and commitment to pursuing a dual major. Her story quickly gained traction among supporters touched by her resolve.

The campaign also highlights broader concerns facing students across North Carolina. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, nearly three out of four full-time undergraduates receive financial aid, yet tuition gaps remain a persistent barrier—especially for students from underserved communities.

Scott hopes her transparency encourages others in similar situations to seek help and stay enrolled.

“I believe in what I’m studying, and I want to make an impact,” she said.

As Scott awaits contributions, she continues working both jobs and preparing for the semester ahead.

For those interested in supporting her journey, the GoFundMe page is titled “Angelica’s Tuition Relief: Keep Me at Meredith.”
