Families Confront Hidden Truths in OWN’s New Docuseries Unlocked: Family Secrets, Premiering September 27
The deeply moving series examines how long-buried truths and generational mysteries continue to shape families, while also offering a path toward healing.
OWN is set to premiere a new six-part documentary series, Unlocked: Family Secrets, on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The deeply moving series examines how long-buried truths and generational mysteries continue to shape families, while also offering a path toward healing. After its debut, the show will move to its regular timeslot on Oct. 4 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Each episode highlights one family as they confront emotional truths that have remained hidden for years.
“These revelations shock and break hearts, yet every storyteller grounds their truth in authenticity and vulnerability.”
Families share their struggles in pursuit of truth, forgiveness, and new beginnings.
Viewers will follow powerful narratives, including a husband and father finally acknowledging his sexual identity, a respected family man whose criminal past resurfaces, and a woman whose long-awaited reunion with her birth mother unearths a devastating secret. These stories reflect the unpredictable and emotional twists families often face when confronting the past.
By addressing the shame frequently tied to hidden histories, Unlocked: Family Secrets works to destigmatize silence within households. The series emphasizes that no family is alone in its struggle to break free from generational burdens.
“At OWN, we believe in the power of truth-telling to transform lives,” said Tina Perry, president of OWN.
“Unlocked: Family Secrets is a courageous and deeply human series that invites families to confront the past, speak their truths, and begin the healing process. We’re proud to bring these stories to our audience, who continue to seek authenticity, connection, and hope in every moment they spend with us.”
Lion TV, an All3Media company, produces the series exclusively for OWN.
