New video sparks renewed support for Kyren Lacy’s GoFundMe campaign
The former LSU wide receiver had faced negligent homicide charges stemming from a fatal crash in Louisiana in December 2024.
A wave of renewed support is surging for Kyren Lacy’s GoFundMe, following the release of new video evidence. The former LSU wide receiver had faced negligent homicide charges stemming from a fatal crash in Louisiana in December 2024.
New surveillance footage released of Kyren Lacy at the crash
In a televised interview with HTV10, attorney Matthew Ory cited newly released surveillance footage from the December 17, 2024, crash in Lafourche Parish. The video shows Lacy’s vehicle trailing the collision by more than 70 yards. “At the time of impact, he’s 72.6 yards behind the vehicles,” Ory emphasized. “Keyword — behind the vehicles. That is not how this story was ever painted. Never.”
Lacy’s legal team says the footage appears to contradict initial police claims that Lacy’s reckless driving caused the fatal crash. Louisiana State Police alleges that Lacy crossed the center line to pass slower vehicles, triggering a chain reaction that led to the death of 78-year-old Herman Hall.
Legal Charges and Tragic End
Lacy denied fault but voluntarily surrendered to police in January after they issued an arrest warrant. Authorities charged him with negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run resulting in death, and reckless vehicle operation. Officials scheduled his grand jury hearing for April 14.
On April 12, just two days before the hearing, Lacy died by suicide.
Kyren Lacy: A Promising Career Cut Short
Lacy, 24, was a standout wide receiver at LSU and a native of Thibodaux, Louisiana. In 2024, he caught 58 passes for 866 yards and led the Southeastern Conference with nine touchdown receptions. Over four seasons with Louisiana and LSU, he recorded 162 catches, 2,360 yards, and 26 touchdowns.
