Born in 1919, Williams grew up in Florida and began working at a turpentine plant in his youth. He later joined the U.S. Navy as a first-class private, stationed in Jacksonville. During World War II, he served in the Pacific theater, where intense battles shaped the course of history.

After the war, Williams pursued education at Old Lincoln School in Tallahassee, earning a certification in interior decoration. He then worked as a house painter well into his 70s, demonstrating remarkable stamina and dedication. He also joined Masonic Lodge No. 259 in Chaires, Florida, and volunteered as a firefighter.
