A GoFundMe campaign now supports the family of Shalanda Williams, 43, who tragically lost her life Saturday night in downtown Montgomery, AL.

Her daughter, Tykeria Mays, 24, created the fundraiser to help cover funeral costs and provide for Williams’ surviving children.

Tragic shooting in Alabama

The mass shooting occurred around 11:30 p.m. near Bibb and Commerce Streets, where large crowds had gathered. According to police, two groups exchanged gunfire during a “senseless disagreement,” resulting in tragedy.

Williams and Jeremiah Morris, 17, both Montgomery residents, were killed. Twelve others sustained injuries. Authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Remembering Shalanda Williams and GoFundMe

Williams is remembered as a devoted mother and a source of strength to those around her. “She was my best friend, my biggest supporter, and my safe place in this world,” Mays wrote on the GoFundMe page.

Williams leaves behind three children: Mays, a 6-year-old son, and a 3-year-old daughter. The fundraiser aims to raise $10,000 to cover funeral expenses and provide support for the children. As of Tuesday afternoon, donations have surpassed $2,000.

“All donations will go directly toward giving Williams the proper homegoing she deserves,” the campaign states. Mays also encourages those unable to donate to share kind words, offer prayers, or help spread the fundraiser.

The Montgomery community continues to mourn the loss of Williams and Morris while seeking answers and justice. Meanwhile, the fundraiser offers a way for others to support a grieving family during this heartbreaking time.
