A Mural Memorial Tribute for Temptations singer Melvin Franklin in Mobile, Alabama
Franklin, an original member of the Grammy Award‑winning group, spent part of his childhood in Mobile, where his grandmother raised him until age 10, according to FOX10 News.
His granddaughter, Nakira Jordan, told the outlet she believes it is time to immortalize her grandfather in his hometown of Mobile.
“That’s where his roots started and that’s where he considered home,” Jordan said.
Organizers plan to place the mural in Mobile’s Civil Rights & Cultural Heritage District, a historic corridor that highlights local contributions to national culture.
Melvin Franklin is the only original member of The Temptations who does not have a memorial in his hometown.
Community Support Will Bring the Vision to Life
The mural remains in development as organizers continue building support across the community.
A GoFundMe has been created to help bring the artwork to life and ensure Franklin’s story continues to resonate for years to come. Supporters say the project will uplift residents, attract visitors and spark conversations about music history, family roots and artistic expression.
The Temptations remain one of Motown’s most successful vocal groups, drawing millions of listeners each month. Because of that enduring reach, organizers believe the mural will help younger generations understand Franklin’s role in shaping American music.
