Dané Josephine Waddell South Carolina Spartanburg mom found dead

Investigators say 31‑year‑old Dané Josephine Waddel died after being struck and dragged by a vehicle in a Spartanburg, S.C., shopping center parking lot.

Deputies discovered her during a 3 a.m. welfare check at the Whitney Road plaza on Jan. 7.

Coroner: Evidence Shows Dané Josephine Waddell Was Dragged

The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office told WYFF that investigators found evidence showing a vehicle ran over her and dragged her. Deputies have not made any arrests, and they have not identified the driver.

Dané Josephine Waddell’s Family Says She Recently Became a mother

Waddell’s family told FOX Carolina that she welcomed her first child, a baby girl, in October 2025. Loved ones described her as a bright, independent woman who made people feel welcome.

Her aunt, Sheina Waddell, told The Post and Courier that Dané had a magnetic personality from infancy. She said Dané smiled and waved at strangers as a baby. “When she would do that, they would come to her,” Sheina said.

Sheina said her niece moved to Spartanburg as a teen to attend a challenging high school. Her aunt remembered Dané’s confidence, creativity and unique style.

“She had a style of her own,” Sheina said. She added that Dané loved cooking and fashion.

“Dané went to cosmetology school to be a hair stylist, and she was great with makeup.”

Family Deep in Grief After Sudden Loss

Loved ones said the loss devastated the family, and they are leaning on their faith as they grieve. Sheina asked the public to keep them and even the unknown driver in their prayers. She said she would ask the person responsible to consider the pain they caused.

“How would they feel about the impact of this happening to their family?” she said. “What would they feel like? Would they want [the driver] to come forward for peace of mind for the family and justice for the family?”

Investigators Ask for Information

The Sheriff’s Office said investigators are actively pursuing the case with assistance from the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Investigators urge anyone with information to contact Investigator Nick Federico at (864) 503‑4591 or [email protected].
