Many people are comparing Eric Garner’s encounter with New York police to Radio Raheem from the infamous movie Do The Right Thing.
After the video of Staten Island resident Eric Garner being put in a chokehold by police went viral, many have spoken out against NYPD’s police brutality and the use of excessive force.
In the video, Garner, a 400-pound father who suffered from asthma , can be heard telling officers that he couldn’t breathe before going limp. His official cause of death is still pending.
The shocking video not only evoked emotions of anger but reminded those of a scene in Spike Lee’s’Do The Right Thing’. In the movie, Radio Raheem is choked to death by police. Spike Lee posted a compilation video that shows us how art can intimate life.
Lee posted a video to his YouTube page that combines images from his film, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, and the viral video of Garner. The result, is nothing less than alarming.
