The FBI has announced a $10,000 reward for information on the mysterious death of Jelani Day.
FBI task force for Jelani Day’s case
The announcement was made by the Jelani Day Joint Task Force (JDJTF). The JDJTF is a multijurisdictional unit that includes departments from Bloomington, LaSalle, Peru, and the Chicago division of the FBI.
Reward
The $10,000 reward is being offered for “substantial information regarding Day’s final hours leading to the identification of new witnesses or evidence in this case.”
According to the announcement, investigators believe the full cooperation of the public and Day’s close contacts may be key to understanding the facts and circumstances surrounding his death.
FBI needs more answers in Jelani Day’s case
Day was reported missing by his family on Aug. 25 and was found dead in the Illinois River on Sept. 4. His family has called for his death to be investigated as a homicide.
“At this moment there are more questions than answers surrounding Jelani’s disappearance and death, and that is where we will focus our energy,” Day’s family recently wrote in a statement. “As of this moment, we do not know what happened to Jelani and we will not stop until we do.”
