NEW YORK — A top neurologist has reportedly determined Wendy Williams does not have frontotemporal dementia, according to TMZ.

Details: Wendy Williams dementia diagnosis

Williams, the former talk show and radio host, has been under a court-ordered guardianship since May 2022. The arrangement was imposed after concerns about her health and finances, with attorney Sabrina Morrissey appointed as her guardian.

Last month, Williams completed a battery of medical tests in New York City. The neurologist concluded she does not have frontotemporal dementia and provided the results to her legal team.

What is frontotemporal dementia?

Frontotemporal dementia is a rare, progressive brain disorder that damages the frontal and temporal lobes. It affects personality, judgment, empathy, language, and movement. Experts note the condition does not improve over time and typically worsens, often striking between ages 40 and 65.

The findings conflict with an earlier test that, according to Williams’ guardian, suggested she had the condition. Despite those claims, Williams has shown resilience since becoming sober three years ago.

Legal Defense

Her attorney Joe Tacopina says filings will follow within two weeks. If the court refuses to lift the guardianship, he plans to demand a jury trial. Tacopina has long disputed reports of a dementia diagnosis, calling leaked claims from Williams’ guardian a “lie” and a “disgrace.”

On Jan. 16, Williams called into The Breakfast Club radio show, where she described the guardianship as a “prison.” At times she cried and insisted she is “not cognitively impaired.”

Williams’ legal team argues the new medical findings should reshape the court’s view of her health and independence.
