10-Year-Old Boy Among 2 People Killed in N.J. Mass Shooting
Authorities confirmed that a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman died after gunfire erupted on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 7:00 p.m. local time.
Two people were killed in a mass shooting in Newark, N.J., on Saturday evening, Nov. 15.

Authorities confirmed that a 10-year-old boy and a 21-year-old woman died after gunfire erupted on the 300 block of Chancellor Avenue around 7:00 p.m. local time.
Officials said both victims were pronounced dead at University Hospital shortly after the incident. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office reported that three additional victims remain in stable condition.
Three Others Injured During Newark N.J. Mass Shooting
Police identified the injured as an 11-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man and a 60-year-old man. Emergency crews transported them to local hospitals, where doctors stabilized their conditions.
Residents Displaced After Gunfire; Neighbors React
Residents of an apartment building on Leslie Street were not allowed to return home following the shooting. Authorities restricted access while investigators collected evidence and secured the area.
Neighbors described chaos during the incident. One local recalled to NJ.com hearing “a lot of screaming” and more than six gunshots.
Mayor Reacts to Newark NJ mass shooting
Newark Mayor Ras Baraka issued a statement that addressed the shooting, as well as the death of a 2-year-old who fell out of a window in the city earlier in the day.
“Today was a dark and devastating day in Newark as a small child fell to his death from an apartment window this afternoon and two more innocent souls died in a shooting on Chancellor Avenue,” he said.
“We will not rest until there is justice for the parents and families left behind in unspeakable pain and grief. Newark will work tirelessly with the prosecutor’s office, state law enforcement, and federal agencies to ensure justice is served. We urge the killer to turn himself in, as there is no safe place to hide,” he said.
Reward and Investigation
The Essex County Sheriff’s Office announced a $10,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. Investigators continue searching for suspects, while detectives canvass the neighborhood for witnesses.
