Authorities in Newark, New Jersey identified 10‑year‑old Jordan Garcia and 21‑year‑old Kiyah Mae Scott as the victims killed in the mass shooting.
Authorities in Newark, New Jersey have identified 10‑year‑old Jordan Garcia and 21‑year‑old Kiyah Mae Scott as the victims killed in Saturday’s mass shooting. The two died after gunmen opened fire outside a liquor store on Leslie Street and Chancellor Avenue.
Essex County prosecutors reported that gunfire wounded Garcia’s 11‑year‑old brother Jayceon, 19‑year‑old Masi Rogers, and 60‑year‑old Sheppard Miller.
Remembering Jordan Garcia

Jordan Garcia (GoFundMe)
Jordan Garcia was a budding athlete who loved football. His mother, Stephanie Garcia, described him as “innocent, pure soul” and said he trusted everyone, per NJ.com. She recalled his daily routine of playing basketball and football at the recreation center with his brothers.
Coach William Rollins, who recruited Jordan to the West Ward Hawks youth program, called told the outlet Jordan was “outgoing, funny, full of energy.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to cover funeral costs, medical bills, and family support.
Honoring Kiyah Mae Scott
Scott’s mother, Annette Ryan, told CBS News her daughter was outgoing, wise, and deeply devoted to her young son. “She loved her son dearly,” Ryan said. Scott stepped out to pick up something from a nearby store when she was shot.
Ryan, who lost another daughter to cancer in 2018, said she is trying to stay strong for her grandson. “I am just concerned about him. He loves his mom,” she said.
Community Support Through Fundraiser
A GoFundMe organized by family members and Jordan’s coach is raising money for funeral expenses and medical care. Organizers said donations will go directly to Stephanie Garcia and her children. “Any amount, no matter how small, is deeply appreciated,” the GoFundMe campaign reads.
Officials Call for Suspects to Surrender
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda urged those responsible to turn themselves in. “We will not rest until we catch the suspect, or suspects, responsible,” he said.
The Essex County sheriff’s office is offering up to $10,000 for information leading to arrests.
