NEW YORK — Black Public Media will take center stage in an upcoming episode of CUNY-TV’s Frame by Frame: NYC Filmmakers in Focus, premiering Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m.

The episode will air through April 5, with streaming available on CUNY’s YouTube Channel from March 13 to April 9. Viewers can also watch on the CUNY TV app.

Black Public Media on CUNY-TV Frame by Frame: Spotlight on Black Storytelling

The feature arrives as Black Public Media (BPM) continues expanding its support for Black creatives. The organization has pushed forward despite last year’s congressional rescission vote, which removed $1.8 million from its budget. In response, BPM launched a grassroots campaign to build its Black Stories Production Fund. The initiative aims to protect Black storytelling from political shifts.

Founded in 1979, BPM funds, distributes and produces media about the global Black experience. Frame by Frame highlights that mission through in-studio conversations and curated screenings.

Episode Highlights

The March 13 episode showcases BPM-supported filmmakers whose work spans social issues, identity and community life.

Featured guests include:

  • Sophia Clark, director and producer of BPM’s five-time Anthem Award-winning series BE HEARD, known for viral campaigns on voting, gender identity and sustainable fashion.
  • Tracii McGregor, director of The Forgotten Ones, a film that follows a man’s four-decade struggle with homelessness.
  • Divad Durant, director of Sweet Samara, which profiles an upstate New York farm using land stewardship as a path to liberation.

BPM Executive Director Leslie Fields-Cruz moderates the episode.

“It was an honor to be a guest host for this episode, and to introduce CUNY TV’s audience to the work of incredibly talented filmmakers,” she said.
