Vigil will be held at Monmouth University in remembrance of Tyler Clementi
Tyler Clementi

In the wake of the tragic news of Tyler Clementi, a Rutgers University student who died by suicide after a live-feed was streamed over the internet broadcasting a sexual encounter with a man, has caused national outrage and frustration.

Tyler Clementi vigil

Anger across the country has people talking about how to prevent such a tragedy again, creating an open dialogue and a place for people to come for refuge.

Within the past week, five people have died by suicide because of gay-related cyber-bullying. In remembrance of Tyler Clementi, Monmouth University in West Long Branch, New Jersey will have a vigil to remember the young vibrant life.

Candle-Light Vigil
TOMORROW: Wednesday, October 6, 2010
4:00 PM Wilson Hall Steps
Rain site inside on the Grand Staircase

Many of you have already heard about the tragedy at Rutgers University that cost the life of Tyler Clementi (age 18). You may not have also heard about the recent deaths of Billy Lucas (15), Seth Walsh (13), and Asher Brown (13). All four reportedly
committed suicide rather than endure the daily violence of anti-gay harassment, bullying, and hate.

This is a tragedy on an epic, and for so many…a daily scale. Monmouth University says enough is enough to all forms of bullying, hate, and harassment. Join us, for a candle light vigil to remember these and other lives lost to hate and bullying. Join
us, to embrace tolerance and a caring community. Join us, to unite as one campus, to create a safe space for everyone who calls Monmouth University home!

Sincerely
