Dallas street to be named in honor of Botham Jean
The Dallas City Council unanimously approved to rename a city street in honor of Botham Jean who was killed in 2018.
The Dallas City Council has unanimously approved to rename a four-mile stretch o a street to “Botham Jean Boulevard,” in honor of the 26-year-old accountant who was shot to death by an off-duty police officer.
Jean was shot to death in his apartment on that street when Amber Guyger, now a former Dallas police officer, mistook it for her own.

“This street on which he chose to live and the street on which he died can serve as a lasting memory of the upstanding resident who loved Dallas so much,” Allison Jean, his mother, told Dallas News of the road on South Lamar Street between Interstate 30 and South Central Expressway.
Botham Jean’s mother said during the meeting that the family’s wish since he died on Sept. 6, 2018, was for him to be remembered.
The street name change will take effect within 60 days, and the city estimates it will cost around $20,000 to change the street signs.
Jean’s family in September filed a wrongful death lawsuit against his former apartment complex, essentially faulting its design and lack of signs. The family has an active lawsuit against the city and Guyger in federal court.
