APD Says Teen Did Not Have a Gun

According to APD, officers responded to a 911 call around 3:51am on July 24 reporting a person with a gun at the park. Investigators allege the call came from Williams’ own phone. Police also said Williams did not have a firearm when officers shot him. He reportedly had a water bottle.

The department has not released a full account of the moments leading up to the shooting. The investigation remains open.

Fundraiser Launched for Funeral Costs

Meanwhile, Williams’ father has launched a fundraiser to help cover funeral and burial expenses. The page describes Williams as a loved son whose death has left relatives “heartbroken” and facing unexpected costs.

Investigation Continues

More than two dozen protesters gathered at Wooldridge Park on Tuesday afternoon to demand accountability and prosecution of the officers involved

APD said the officers involved are on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Additional details are expected as investigations move forward.
