Music community rallies around Bassist Quintin Berry ahead of surgery
Bassist Quintin Berry, known for his signature “cradle style” playing and decades of support for fellow musicians, is preparing for prostate surgery.
Bassist Quintin Berry, known for his signature “cradle style” playing and decades of support for fellow musicians, is preparing for prostate surgery that will keep him offstage for several months. Berry, a fixture in Alabama’s music scene, has inspired audiences with his groove‑driven performances and willingness to help others.
Berry will be unable to work for an estimated three to six months during his recovery, according to a fundraiser launched on his behalf. Like many career musicians, he does not have health insurance, leaving him responsible for medical bills, rent, groceries and daily expenses.
Fundraiser Surpasses $30,000 as Support Grows
Musicians and fans have raised more than $30,000 to help Berry cover living and medical costs while he heals. The GoFundMe campaign notes that Berry has long been a pillar of the bass community, and supporters say they want to return the generosity he has shown throughout his career.
Organizers say every contribution helps Berry focus on recovery instead of worrying about bills. They also encourage supporters to share the fundraiser so it reaches more people touched by Berry’s music.
Benefit Concert Planned for Next Month
A benefit concert called “Bass for Berry” is scheduled for August 16 at Veet’s in downtown Mobile. The event will feature multiple acts, including
- Troy Brannon
- GypsyPearl
- Journey 2 Mars
- others who have performed with Berry or been influenced by his work.
Organizers say Berry has always stepped up for others in need, from fellow musicians to longtime venue staff. They hope the concert will celebrate his impact and help raise additional funds during his recovery period.
Community Honors Berry’s Legacy
Supporters describe Berry as a generous spirit who brings joy to every stage he steps on. His unique style and passion have earned him respect across genres and generations. Now, the music community says it is their turn to support him.
The fundraiser and benefit concert aim to ensure Berry can return to performing without financial strain, giving him the same stability he has helped create for others throughout his career.
