HBCU marching band invited to perform at Presidential Inauguration parade
The “Mean Green Marching Machine” HBCU marching band from Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) has received an invitation to participate in the 60th Presidential Inauguration Parade in Washington, D.C., on January 20, 2025.

The 250-member “Mean Green Marching Machine” band has started a GoFundMe, seeking donations to cover travel and other expenses related to the trip, with a goal to raise $120,000.
As the HBCU band notes on its GoFundMe page, the historic band has previously performed at NBA games, the Rose Bowl Parade, New Orleans Mardi Gras parades, the National Showband Battle of the Bands, and other revered Battle of the Bands and parades.
Fundraiser
The total cost of the trip, including travel, accommodations, meals, and equipment, is approximately $350,000. MVSU says there are committed to ensuring that every student can participate regardless of financial circumstances.
“Throughout our history, we have succeeded in ensuring that over half of our students who enroll at the University also graduate,” the fundraiser reads.
We are seeking financial assistance from our supporters in the United States to actualize this objective for the students. Your assistance is essential in helping us attain this esteemed opportunity,” it continued.
