Karmelo Anthony released after bond lowered to $250,000
Anthony was released from the Collin County jail this afternoon and put on house arrest with an ankle monitor, according to reports.
Karmelo Anthony, the 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing another student at a high school track meet in Texas earlier this month, was released from jail after his bond was significantly lowered.
Karmelo Anthony’s bond lowered
Anthony was released from the Collin County jail this afternoon and put on house arrest with an ankle monitor, according to reports.
His bond was orginially $1 million before being lowered by Texas stare District Judge Angela Tucker Monday morning.
While under house arrest, Anthony will only be permitted to leave home with the judge’s permission, specifically trips to his attorney’s office and meetings in court, and will need to be accompanied by an adult at all times. He is also not to contact the Metcalf family, including on social media.
The controversial Karmelo Anthony case
Anthony had been in custody since April 2, when he was arrested of allegedly killing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas. Anthony reportedly told police he acted in self-defense.
Police said witnesses reportedly saw Metcalf tell Anthony he had to move his seat in the bleachers during the track meet, WFAA reported.
One witness told police that after being told to move, Anthony reached inside his bag and told Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.”
The witness said Metcalf touched Anthony, then allegedly grabbed him. Anthony then allegedly stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.
Fundraiser
Anthony’s family has maintained “the narrative being spread is false, unjust, and harmful,” on a GiveSendGo.com fundraiser for their legal fees.
The fundraiser has raised more than $420,000 so far out of a $500,000 goal.
