Justice for Jordan Russell Davis: Unarmed teen killed over music
Another senseless shooting of an unarmed black teenager in Florida.

When will the madness stop? Another unarmed teenager, in what many are comparing to Trayvon Martin, was killed in Florida.
For what reason you might ask? A dispute over music.
17-year-old Jordan Russell Davis is now another victim of a senseless murder, and his alleged killer must be best friends with George Zimmerman, because he too is claiming self defense under Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law :
Jordan Davis Shot Over Loud Music
According to reports, Michael David Dunn, 45, acted “as any responsible firearms owner would have,” his lawyer said of the Friday evening incident at a gas station outside a convenience store in Jacksonville, Fla. Dunn and his girlfriend were in Jacksonville for his son’s wedding when they pulled up in their car next to the teens.
Police allege that while the girlfriend was in the store, Dunn told Jordan Russell Davis, 17, and his three friends to turn down their music. “It was loud,” Jacksonville homicide Lt. Rob Schoonover said of the teens’ music. “They admitted that. That’s not a reason for someone to open fire.”
After an exchange of words, Dunn began shooting with a handgun, Schoonover said. “Nobody else in that vehicle was struck; it was just our victim [Davis], which was lucky because the vehicle was shot eight or nine times,” Schoonover said.
Claims of a gun
Dunn claims someone wielded a shot gun out of the SUV which prompted the 45-year-old software developer to shoot. But, the police found no firearm in the car.
Dunn’s lawyer responded:
“How hard did they look,” Lemonidis said. “Have they done an entire search?”
Perhaps Jordan’s friends did drive off, letting their friend bleed to death, and dispose of the gun.
Perhaps not.
What boggles my mind is Dunn immediately drove off telling his girlfriend he’d just “fired at some kids”, and they checked in a nearby hotel.
The next morning after Dunn watched the news and learned Davis had died, he turned himself in to authorities.
What I don’t understand is pulling into a convenience store parking lot and asking a couple of teenagers to turn their music down.
After all, how long do you plan on staying? 5 minutes? Furthermore, I don’t understand how you can fire shots in what you say was self-defense but neglected to call the police.
Michael Dunn has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and maintains his story of self-defense.
He has been denied bond, and is currently being held in a Florida jail.
Jordan Davis Family
Family and friends describe Jordan Davis as a happy teenager that excelled in school and was thankful for his family, friends, and life.
Many people are comparing Davis’ story to Trayvon Martin.
In Travyon Martin’s case, there was a lack of police action. What is similar? The tale of a young Black man not living to see past 21 years old.
The fact remains, a young man is dead, and we will never know the possibilities for him because his life was snuffed, senselessly.
We need to start standing up for rights, and letting our voices be heard.
Davis’ voice may have been silenced, but we will be the voice by continuing to fight for Davis until justice is served.
