SUPER GHANA SESSION: ASSEMBLYMAN ERIC HOUGHTALING
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School invited Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling, a rep of the eleventh legislative district for the NJ’s General Assembly
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Middle School teachers, Mr. Wronko and science teacher, Mr. Tim Mason, invited Assemblyman Eric Houghtaling, a representative of the eleventh legislative district for the New Jersey’s General Assembly, to participate in a Ghana session.
When the session began, Mr. Houghtaling asked the students in Ghana about their country.
The students in Ghana gave a historical overview of Ghana’s culture, politics, ways of life, and how the country continued to strive for success.
After their presentation, Mr. Houghtaling gave the MLK and Ghana students a brief lesson in government. He spoke about the United States’ Federal Government and its three branches, the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial.
In addition, he spoke about New Jersey’s governor, Phil Murphy, as well as being Mayor of Neptune.
From there, Mr. Houghtaling mentioned how the two political parties, the Democrats and Republicans, need to work together in order to make a good government.
Besides the two political parties, Mr. Houghtaling talked about his work for the Agriculture Committee.
After his presentation, the students asked him numerous questions. Some of those questions were:
How did you get involved in politics?
What measures are you taking to help create jobs in New Jersey?
Was there any legislation that passed that you did not agree with?
Besides being a politician for New Jersey, what are your hobbies?
Would you ever consider on running for Governor?
Are you in favor of money being put into helping Atlantic City make a comeback?
What can citizens do to make New Jersey the top state in the country?
Are you still involved in projects that will help the infrastructure of New Jersey?
Is your time split between Trenton and the District you represent?
What career would you encourage students of our age to go into that would benefit New Jersey as a whole?
The students enjoyed Houghtaling’s presentation and invite him to attend another session.
