Pregnant Tacoma woman survives violent pit bull attack, gives birth to healthy baby
Renee Wilson and her newborn son are alive after Wilson was violently attacked by two loose dogs while nine months pregnant.
TACOMA, Wash. — Renee Wilson and her newborn son are alive after Wilson was violently attacked by two loose dogs while nine months pregnant, according to Tacoma Police.
The attack left Wilson with multiple bite wounds, including injuries to her stomach, forcing doctors to induce labor the next day.
Renee Wilson Was Attacked By Pitbulls
Tacoma Police said the attack happened around 11 a.m. on June 25. Moreover, officers reported Wilson was knocked to the ground and bitten several times before neighbors rushed in to help.
Surveillance footage obtained by FOX 13 Seattle shows Wilson trying to chase the dogs away in a parking lot moments before they lunged at her.
Doctors Act Quickly to Protect Unborn Baby
Wilson told FOX 13 she feared her son would not survive after one of the dogs bit her abdomen. Then doctors made the decision to induce labor due to the severity of her injuries and the risk of infection.
Her baby boy was delivered healthy and is recovering well.
Renee Wilson Faces Serious Infections and Mobility Issues
While her son is safe, Wilson remains hospitalized. She is battling cellulitis, MRSA and significant mobility loss in her right leg. Additionally, she requires IV antibiotics, physical therapy and ongoing monitoring.
Her family said she “cannot walk and will need consistent help,” according to a fundraiser created by relatives to support her recovery.
Dogs Declared Dangerous; Humane Euthanasia Recommended
FOX 13 reports Tacoma Animal Control impounded both dogs, an American Pit Bull Terrier and an American Bully, and declared them dangerous. Officials said they will seek humane euthanasia due to the severity of the attack.
Police said the owners have been cooperative.
Community Rallies to Support Wilson
A GoFundMe has been launched to help cover medical bills, home care and living expenses. Meanwhile, Wilson said she is grateful to be alive. “I could have lost my life, and so could my son,” she told FOX 13.
