Greater Miami & Miami Beach is set to celebrate Black History Month with a series of events that bring the destination’s rich cultural heritage to life.

Black History Month in Miami

The popular destination offers a wealth of opportunities to explore the deep-rooted history, artistic expression, and cultural legacy of African Americans.

“From the colorful murals of Little Haiti to the historic landmarks of Coconut Grove and the rhythmic beats of Afro-Caribbean festivals, Miami provides a dynamic and immersive experience that reflects the resilience, creativity, and rich traditions of its Black communities. Whether through museum exhibits, culinary delights, or live performances, visitors can engage with the narratives that have shaped Miami’s identity and continue to inspire generations,” The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau (GMCVB) said in a press release.

Vibrant cultures

“Black culture from the United States, the Caribbean, and beyond have all influenced what Miami & Miami Beach is today as a destination and as a community. It’s truly inspiring to celebrate these vibrant cultures,” said David Whitaker, President & CEO of the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau. “This line-up of events for Black History Month is part of a year-round commitment to offer unique and diverse experiences for our visitors.”

Oskuneru 2025

THEATER: Oskuneru 2025
Date: February 6-15, 2025
Experience resilience and self-liberation in Oskuneru 2025, an immersive play blending Caribbean heritage with modern storytelling. Written and directed by Miami-born, Suriname-raised Sefanja Richard Galon, it brings the Surinamese Maroons’ fight for freedom to life at The Art Lab, MDC Wolfson Campus.

Heritage Fest

FESTIVALS: Heritage Fest
Date: February 8, 2025, at 3:00 p.m.
Heritage Fest returns to the Adrienne Arsht Center, celebrating Pan-African culture with free music, dance, literature, and local flavors. Enjoy Afro-Venezuelan drumming, dance workshops, readings by Dr. Michael Woodward, and a live concert by STOUT. A vendor village highlights local businesses and food vendors, making for a vibrant afternoon of culture and community.

ART: Art & Soul

Date: February 1, 2025
Celebrate the 12th Anniversary of Art + Soul, PAMM’s premier social and fundraising event supporting the Fund for Black Art. Immerse yourself in an unforgettable evening of art, culture, and community. Begin with a chic cocktail reception followed by a lavish seated dinner, expertly crafted by renowned Chef Akino West. Cap off the night with refreshing cocktails, indulgent desserts and dancing under the stars to electrifying live entertainment. Part of the GMCVB’s Art of Black Miami program.

MOCA miniMakers: Celebrate Black History Month

Date: February 1, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
Discover the rich tradition of storytelling through textile art in this engaging workshop for young creators. MOCA miniMakers presents a special Black History Month celebration on Saturday, February 1, featuring local artist Linda Telfer, who will showcase her work and help participants learn to create their own narrative-driven textile collages.

DANCE: Broadway in the Gardens

Date: February 21, 2025, 7:00-10:00 p.m.
Celebrate Black excellence in theater and the arts at the Lou Rawls Center for the Performing Arts. Broadway in the Gardens features performances by the Peter London Global Dance Company and opera soloist Angel Refuse’, offering a cultural experience that highlights the richness of the African diaspora.

FOOD: Soul Vegan and Seafood Festival

Date: February 10, 2025, 1:00 – 6:30 p.m.
Experience a culinary celebration of Black History Month at Lummus Park, featuring a showcase of African American and Caribbean plant-based cuisine crafted by South Florida’s top chefs. Presented by the City of Miami Beach and The Hungry Black Man, the Soul Vegan and Seafood Festival returns to Lummus Park, between 6th and 7th Streets on Saturday, February 10.

CABARET: The Hazel Scott Show (by the New World Symphony)

Date: February 7, 2025, at 7:30 p.m.
A tribute to groundbreaking musician Hazel Scott takes center stage once again in honor of Black History Month. The Hazel Scott Show, an encore performance by the New World Symphony, comes to the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater in Overtown on Thursday, February 6.

MUSIC: I Dream A World: Transitions and Trailblazers

Dates: February 8-9, 2025, Sat: 7:30 p.m. | Sun: 2:00 p.m.
Explore Black artistry from the Harlem Renaissance to the Civil Rights Movement at New World Symphony’s I Dream A World festival. Now in its fourth year, Transitions and Trailblazers highlights Black artists’ WWII contributions. Conducted by Jeri Lynne Johnson in her NWS debut, the program features work by William Grant Still, Julia Perry, and William L. Dawson.

NOMI Music Festival

Date: February 22, 2025, 5:00 p.m.
Gather under the stars for an evening of R&B featuring chart-topping contemporary and legacy artists at the City of North Miami’s 2025 NOMI Music Festival. This all-ages festival returns to Cagni Park with an all-star lineup. In addition to live performances, there will be a live DJ spinning old school classics and food vendors. Bring your own blanket and lawn chairs.

Botanical Garden Groove

Date: February 27, 2025, 6:00-10:00 p.m.
Vibe to the sounds of Miami’s diverse dance music scenes as local DJs and producers perform amid the lush backdrop of the Miami Beach Botanical Garden. On Thursday, February 27, Botanical Garden Groove, presented by Miami Beach OnStage! and Public Energy, takes over Miami Beach Botanical Garden. Featuring Miami-based electronic duo PAPERWATER, Duality, Pressure Point and DJ DLuxe.

A Night at the Sir John’s Knight Beat

Date: February 27, 2025, 7:00p.m.
Experience Miami’s musical history with A Night at The Sir John’s at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center. Featuring the Idyllic Funk Band, this tribute honors the legendary Knight Beat, a key Chitlin’ Circuit venue and Green Book landmark.

Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival

Date: February 27-March 2, 2025
Celebrate 28 years of jazz at the Melton Mustafa Jazz Festival in Historic Overtown. Held at the Black Archives Historic Lyric Theater, the event honors jazz greats Melton Mustafa Sr. and Jaco Pastorius. Enjoy a VIP reception, performances by the Melton Mustafa Orchestra with Jesse Jones Jr. and Lenard Rutledge, and a finale by the Jaco Pastorius Big Band.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Shattered Structures

Dates: February 19-March 27, 2025
Shattered Structures: Looking Back 15 Years to the Earthquake in Haiti explores Haiti’s 2010 earthquake through the lens of Haitian American photographer Christopher L. Mitchell. Opening at FIU MBUS Design Gallery, this exhibit captures the disaster’s impact on architecture and the resilience of its people.
