Democrat Karen Bass has become the first woman elected as mayor of Los Angeles, according to projections by The Associated Press.

Karen Bass campaign
Bass ran a campaign pledging to build coalitions in a city torn by racial tensions and fed up with homelessness.
She received support from several top Democrats during her campaign, including President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.
Rick Caruso
Caruso is a real estate developer who poured millions of his own fortune into the race and picked up endorsements from notable celebrities including Chris Pratt, Kim Kardashian and Katy Perry.
The two candidates have not yet released statements regarding the Associated Press calling the race in Bass’s favor.
