On May 6, 2016 the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School students along with the students in Ghana were planning for a joint session.
Ghana Joint Session
This joint session would most likely take place in the month of September.
What the students were planning to do was to film mini news reports at different locations.
These news reports would be placed into different segments such as sports, food, entertainment, tourism and attractions, their schools, beaches, and colleges.
Other presentations
Besides the discussion for the joint session, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School students presented numerous presentations to the students in Ghana. These presentations dealt with Cinco de Mayo, Haitian Heritage month, and the remembrance of the Holocaust. Because of all the topics presented, this became a double session.
Joint Session on Ghana history
Furthermore, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School students shared what they have gained from the Ghana Project. For instance, they stated that they had learned a lot about Ghana’s history, learned how to be a better public speaker, got to meet new students from a different place in the world, and got recognized in numerous articles and magazines.
Daniele Delgado’s power point
The following regarding their experience with the Ghana Project was taken from Daniele Delgado’s power point.
My experience with the Ghana students was very fun. We got to talk to students across the ocean. The students were very kind and had a lot of questions to ask us and we had a lot of answers for them. We did several power points for them and we would present them on Fridays. If I could, I would communicate with them all the time!
The Ghana students taught us a few things about Cape Coast Slave Dungeon in the beginning of our Ghana sessions.
The tour guide brought us, students, visually inside the dungeon in which slaves were held and separated by gender.
The tour guide explained how the slaves were a part of the Transatlantic Slave Trade in which slaves were displaced from their homes, placed in the dungeons and then sold in America. I learned a lot from that presentation and I also really enjoyed it.
