49 killed at gay nightclub in Orlando
A gay nightclub in Orlando, FL was the scene of one of the worst terror attacks scene in US history since 9/11.
A gunman carried out one of the worst terror attacks in U.S. history since 9/11 at a gay nightclub in Orlando, FL.
Police say he killed 49 people and injured at least 53 others last night at Pulse Club.
Police shot and killed the gunman, identified as Omar Mateen of Ft. Pierce, Florida, according to a law enforcement source who spoke to CNN.
“It appears he was organized and well-prepared,” Orlando Police Chief John Mina said early Sunday. The shooter had an assault-type weapon, a handgun and “some type of (other) device on him.”
There has been no claim of responsibility for the attack on jihadi forums. ISIS sympathizers have reacted by praising the attack on pro-Islamic State forums.
Officials, aided by the FBI, said there will be a lengthy investigation.
Before Sunday’s shooting at the gay nightclub, the deadliest shootings in U.S. history were at Virginia Tech in 2007 and Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, with 32 and 27 killed.
