Cavalier Johnson has made history Tuesday becoming the first African American elected as Milwaukee’s mayor.

Cavalier Johnson makes history

At only 35 years old, Johnson is also the city’s first millennial mayor, bringing in a new generation to political power to City Hall.

Johnson defeated Ald. Bob Donovan in a special election, a victory for the politican who started as Common Council freshman in Wisconsin’s largest city.

“This city for the first time in our 176-year history has elected its first Black mayor. We did it,” Johnson told supporters at the Hilton Milwaukee City Center.

Congratulations Cavalier Johnson!
