NEW YORK — A white Colorado physician has joined the conservative group Do No Harm to file a lawsuit against the online directory Find A Black Doctor. The lawsuit claims the platform excludes non‑Black physicians and violates federal civil rights law.

Lawsuit Filed by White Doctor Against Find A Black Doctor

The suit was filed May 19 in Manhattan federal court. It names the directory’s founder, New York dermatologist Dr. Dina Strachan, as the defendant.

Plaintiff Dr. Travis Morrell, a double board‑certified dermatologist, says he applied to join the directory in December 2025. He says he never received a response. A follow‑up email also went unanswered. The complaint argues his application was “constructively rejected because he is white.”

Eligibility Requirement

The lawsuit focuses on the directory’s stated eligibility rule. The site lists only “Black physicians and dentists in active clinical practice.”

Morrell and Do No Harm argue the rule excludes qualified doctors based on race. They say the policy denies them “valuable advertising exposure” and access to potential patients.

Who Is Do No Harm?

Do No Harm, founded in 2022, publicly opposes DEI efforts in medicine. The group challenges Find A Black Doctor directory’s support for racial concordance, the idea that patients may benefit from doctors of the same race. The lawsuit calls the concept a “pernicious and debunked myth.”

About Find A Black Doctor

Find A Black Doctor launched in 2005 and relaunched in 2019. The directory promotes itself as a national resource for Black patients seeking culturally competent care. It lists Black physicians and dentists across all 50 states.

Morrell and Do No Harm want the court to remove race as a listing requirement. They also want Morrell’s application accepted and seek compensatory and punitive damages.
