The case of Teleka Patrick has come to an unfortunate end.

Investigators have confirmed the body found in an Indiana lake has been identified as missing doctor Teleka Patrick.

Teleka Patrick found deceased

The Kalamazoo County Sheriff says that there were no signs of trauma and it is likely that Patrick died from drowning, but they are still awaiting further toxicology reports. The sheriff says that barring any further information, the case is now closed.

Her disappearance

The disappearance of Dr. Teleka Patrick had family members, friends, and community members scrabbling for answers as to what happened to the promising doctor.

Patrick went missing on December 5th in the parking lot of Borgess Medical Center in Kalamzoo. Earlier, surveillance video captured Patrick trying to get a room at local hotel near the hospital.

A little more than two hours after she was dropped off at Borgess by the hotel shuttle, Patrick’s gold 1997 Lexus ES300 was found abandoned in a ditch on westbound I-94 near Portage, Ind.

Authorities found no keys in the car, and her purse and cell phone were found at the hospital were she worked before she was reported missing.

Investigators originally thought she was heading towards Chicago, but apparently was actually headed to St. Louis to meet an old acquaintance. She had told friends about Chicago, but was misleading them. Investigators say that she left Kalamazoo on her own free will and had been troubled on the night of Dec. 5, when she was last seen.

Teleka’s family released the following statement on Facebook:

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.”Lamentations 3:22-23

Over the past several months, you have gotten to know Teleka Cassandra Patrick. You’ve gotten to know her how we knew her and you’ve seen her bright and caring smile. She was beautiful, intelligent, and God-fearing. You’ve prayed for Teleka, cried for Teleka, and worked to find Teleka and we thank you. We thank you for walking this difficult journey with our family.

Teleka’s death is not the ending we had hoped for, however, the journey does not end here. As we mourn Teleka, we must also honor her; honor the life she led, honor her kind spirit and honor her devotion to God and others. Teleka had a passion and zest for life and no matter the circumstances that led up to her death, we are certain that she would not have taken her own life. Many questions remain, but what is certain is that we will love her forever and her legacy will continue to live on in the love we show to others.

Thank you for your prayers. Please respect our privacy in this difficult time.
