The Univ. of Cincinnati police has terminated off campus patrol in light of the recent fatal shooting of
Samuel Dubose, reports FOX19.
In agreement with the City of Cincinnati, the campus revealed startling information about traffic stops made by University police throughout the area surrounding the school.
The City of Cincinnati Law and Public Safety Committee quickly approved the ordinance after reviewing traffic stops dating back to January 1, 2013.
University records show that the police had doubled stops of non-African Americans from 579 in 2013 to 932 with stops of African American Cincinnatian’s quadrupling from 633 in 2013 to 2,354 this year alone!
Councilwoman Yvette Simpson said it’s “astounding. You don’t want to make accusations, but it’s like— there’s disparate impact and then there’s profiling. That’s a huge number.”
Univ. of Cincinnati Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell admitted “I was a little bit concerned — I can’t lie – I’m a little bit concerned about the numbers and the discrepancy in the culture and race of the drivers that are stopped. I think we have to look at that to see if there’s anything there.”
