DUBLIN, Ohio — Beloved CBS Sports production assistant Bryce Adair, 31, has died following a single‑car crash while working the PGA Tour’s Memorial Golf Tournament in Ohio. He was injured on Wednesday, June 3, and died Saturday, June 6, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Crash Occurred While Covering PGA Tour Event
Adair was in Ohio as part of the CBS Sports crew covering the Memorial Tournament when he was involved in what colleagues described as a “horrific single‑car accident.” He was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he remained in critical condition until his death.
A GoFundMe created for his family confirmed his untimely passing.
Jim Nantz Delivers Emotional On‑Air Tribute
CBS Sports announcer Jim Nantz confirmed Adair’s death during Saturday’s broadcast. Nantz paused several times as he delivered the news, calling it one of the most difficult moments of his 40‑year career.
“Be patient with us for a minute here,” Nantz said. “A huge loss earlier today within our CBS Sports family. Trust me when I tell you that in over 40 years I have never seen our crew of 250 people coming to a broadcast like this one carrying as much grief as they are now.”
Nantz remembered Adair as “an incredibly bright, charismatic teammate.”
He also addressed Adair’s mother directly:
“The world was his and he deserved the world… Michelle, thank you for sharing your remarkable son with us. We loved him and he will never be forgotten.”
Colleagues Across Sports Broadcasting Mourn His Loss
CBS Sports reporter Tracy Wolfson called Adair “a kind and positive colleague” and said she would remember his enthusiasm and humor.
Other CBS staff members honored him on social media, noting his professionalism, warmth and dedication to the craft. Many described him as a rising talent in sports broadcasting.
CBS Sports production assistant Bryce Adair’s Rising Career Cut Short
Adair was from the Augusta, Georgia area and attended Lakeside High School, where he played basketball. He later graduated from Valdosta State University with a communications degree.
Before joining CBS Sports in 2017, he worked with the Augusta GreenJackets baseball organization and Augusta National Golf Club. He later earned an Emmy Award for his work on CBS’s Super Bowl coverage and had been training to become a Steadicam operator.
Adair’s death left a profound void among the 250‑person crew working the Memorial Tournament, many of whom held a standing ovation in his honor.
GoFundMe created by Bryce Adair’s Colleagues
Following the crash, a GoFundMe had been created by colleagues to assist Aydair during his recovery. The fundraiser will now aid his family during this difficult time. At the time of this report, the fundraiser has raised $82,000.
